Nicknamed the Amiens Gun, the 28cm SK L/40 Railway Gun 'Bruno' was crafted by Germany amidst a series of colossal artillery pieces. The concept of railway guns emerged during the American Civil War, with the Confederacy deploying a 32-pounder at Savage Station in 1862. As World War I progressed, each side developed larger artillery, culminating in naval guns mounted on railway cars, boasting ranges up to twenty miles. This trend continued into World War II. Germany produced six 28cm railway guns, one of which was used to shell Amiens during the Battle of Amiens in 1918. Captured by Australians at the Battle of Harbonnieres, the gun is now a war trophy displayed at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
