Choosing the Right ShackleChoosing a shackle depends on your application. A chain shackle's elongated and narrow shape allows the shackle to maintain tension in a straight line on its longest axis. However, it is at its weakest when tension is created in various angles and most weak when it must bear a load at its sides. • Depending on shackle size, the maximum working load limit ranges between 24.4 to 54.9 kilonewtons of force. Safe working load depends on application, and even orientation of the shackle under load.
