The M3 General Lee, an American medium tank from World War II, was also employed by the British army, known as the Lee in the US and Grant in the UK. It was developed to supersede the outdated M2 tank, which was unsuitable for the WWII battlefield. Production commenced in August 1941. The M3 tank incorporated many components from the M2 light tank, such as the chassis, Wright R975 EC2 star engine, and the shape of the combat compartment.
