The 37mm M3, America's first domestically produced anti-tank gun, was developed after two German 3.7cm PaK 35/36 guns were acquired for testing in 1937. After extensive trials, the T10 gun with T5 carriage was selected and redesignated as the 37mm M3. Delivered in early 1940, it became the standard anti-tank gun for US Infantry Divisions and the USMC, typically towed by a 4x4 1/4 ton Jeep or larger 3/4 ton Dodge truck. The 37mm M3A1, introduced in March 1942, featured a muzzle brake and was the main production model, with over 10,000 units built. It served in Europe until mid-1943, replaced by a British 6 Pounder copy, but remained in use in the Pacific until the war's end. Firing M51 APC ammunition, it could penetrate 60mm of vertical armor at 1000 meters.
