Sherline Dovetail-Base Headstock with 90-Volt DC Motor

The robust Sherline headstocks, derived from those on the Sherline lathe and milling machine, are crafted from extruded 6061-T6 aluminum with a black anodized finish. They come with your choice of spindle: 3/4-16 #1M taper or ER-16*. All Sherline Industrial spindles boast lifetime-lubricated bearings with adjustable preload, rated Class 5 for enhanced accuracy, tighter tolerance, smoother operation, and cooler running. The bearings, except in the 3C headstock, are 6004-VV C3P5 ABEC 5, capable of continuous speeds up to 4,000 RPM with a factory preload adjustment of .0002, or up to 10,000 RPM with a slightly looser setting of .0003. Note: Collets for the ER-16 spindle are available through MSC Industrial Supply Co. or other tool supply sources. Standard features include a brass gib on the dovetailed base, mounting point for saddle nuts, spindle bearing dust cover washer, and ER-16 collet nut (with ER-16 spindle headstocks). To mount, lightly lubricate the dovetailed surfaces, hook the headstock base over the dovetail, attach the brass gib using provided screws, and tighten set screws to lock gib adjustment screws in place. Optional Electroless Nickel plating is available for rustproofing. Spindle precautions: consider these light duty, suitable for long stock passage, but not for high RPM rotation of long or out-of-round parts. Dust and coolant spray can shorten bearing life; shield the spindle shaft from coolant. The 90-Volt DC motor delivers maximum torque at low RPM, offering more useable power and smoother operation than AC/DC motors. It has a 2-position V-step pulley for high-speed, low-torque or low-speed, high-torque operation. Standard motor features include 1/2 HP, 90-volt high-torque DC motor, 2-step V belt pulley, fiberglass-reinforced urethane drive belt, variable speed electronic speed control (70-2800 RPM), load compensating circuit, and an eight-foot, three-wire power cord.
