Sterling Silver Emma Stothard Silver Darling Amethyst 6mm Float Petite Charm Necklace, P3592.

What happens when a great British artist combines with great British jewellery designers? In the case of Whitby sculptor Emma Stothard and our workshop team, the result is a stunning contemporary jewellery collection which celebrates Whitby’s fishing heritage, translating Emma’s iconic life-sized works on the new Whitby Sculpture Trail into distinctive and desirable jewellery designs.

At the heart of Emma’s Whitby Sculpture Trail are the 'Herring Girls': hard-working women with the gruelling task of preparing and packing the fish. It’s inspired by the women who would follow the herring fleet as it worked its way down from Scotland to Lowestoft meeting the demand for the ‘silver darlings’, so-called for their value to the fishing industry in the late 19th and early 20th century.

Whilst our ‘Silver Darlings’ jewellery collection offers unique and handcrafted jewellery designs, it also provides a sense of female empowerment, history and a dedication to a thriving Yorkshire industry.

About Emma Stothard: Emma was born in Hull, grew up in Kilnsea and now lives in Whitby, so is firmly rooted in Yorkshire. She is a renowned sculptor whose work can be found across the world, from the Prince of Wales’ private residence at Highgrove to Raymond Blanc’s two-Michelin-starred Belmond Le Manoir aux Quat’Saisons in Oxfordshire. In 2019, Emma was commissioned to produce a series of life-sized sculptures in Whitby to celebrate the achievements of notable figures from its fishing heritage, as well as the contribution of the many anonymous fishermen, harbour workers and their families who have given so much to the town.

Individual elements and charms within the collection can be purchased separately and combined together to create a look that is uniquely yours. This piece is sold complete with an 18 inch long sterling silver chain.

All articles are lovingly and securely dispatched with our elegant jewellery packaging.
